The Walk

Good exercise, great company, beautiful food and the most stunning views of Ibiza since Amnesia lost its roof. How many times have you been to Ibiza and seen nothing more than nightclubs and hotel walls? Ibiza is magical in a very different way too. The nightlife is a minuscule part of it. The sunsets? Some of the most stunning on earth. During our 'Pioneers of Balearic House' 4-day walking tour we will aim to cover 15-25km a day, taking in 4 completely different parts of the island with a different 'pioneer' joining us each day. A chance to talk, walk and enjoy time spent seeing the most beautiful side of Ibiza. With a little surprise or two thrown in for good measure - it is Ibiza after-all. Route details and timings will be published at least 14 days before the start of the tour. We walk with you, not in-front of you - at a pace that fits the slowest walkers of the group. We are donating £100 from every trip sold on our Walk on the Wild Side retreats to We Are Hummingbird who run mental health first aid and suicide prevention workshops in the UK and support DJ retreats in Ibiza. More information can be found on our 'Raise Money' page.

The Plan

Retreat Itinerary

Day ONE - Lost in San Mateu

12.00 - 16.00 (10-12km)

Our very first walk is the (original) Lost City Walk, leaving from the valley near San Mateu where most of the grapes are produced for making wine on the island.  We'll head into the forest where we will pass olive, fig and carob trees and forage for rosemary, thyme and lavender along the way.

We'll find the 'great wall' of Ibiza with some of the most stunning views out to sea - you can even see mainland Spain on a good day! The perfect introduction to the island and best way to prepare for our big walk on day TWO.

Retreat Itinerary

Day TWO - High in San Miguel

10.00 - 17.00 (20-25km)

The biggest and toughest of our four walks. Day two we take on the San Miguel BIG Circular walk with lots of height climb and some of the most stunning views of the island.

There are few places left on Ibiza that are truly isolated and untouched by tourism and Portixol is one of them. Only accessible by walking or boat, it's the perfect 'C' shaped cove and the perfect bay for swimming - with crystal clear waters.

Plenty of time to recover the following morning as our Sunset Walk on day THREE starts late afternoon.

Retreat Itinerary

Day THREE - Es Vedra Sunset

18.30 - 21.30 (sunset 20.43)

Leaving from the beautiful village of Es Cubells in the late afternoon, we follow a secret path towards the third most magnetic point on Earth, the stunning and mystical, Es Vedra.

We climb to the highest point, 400m above sea level, bursting through the trees for the most magical sunset view in Ibiza.

Then it's back to an intimate location for DJ sets from some of the pioneers of the Balearic sound.

Retreat Itinerary

Day FOUR - A Big One in Bossa

11.00 - 18.00 (walk), 20.00 - 23.00 (Ibango)

A final big one! 20km starting and finishing at Coco Beach, Playa D'En Bossa.

We'll take in the stunning nature reserve and salt flats close to Salinas Beach and if we're lucky, we might see flamingos as we carry onwards and upwards to Cap des Falco before heading back along ancient paths through a hidden valley.

Then it's off to Ibiza's traditional Ibango Tribe, just behind Amnesia, for our alternative after-party with legendary international percussionist, Trace Harris.. The perfect authentic ending to four days exploring the real Ibiza.

DJ Alfredo

Balearic Godfather

Born in Argentina in 1953, Alfredo Fiorito immigrated to Spain in 1976 and played his first set in Amnesia in 1983. It didn’t quite attain the success he hoped for but thankfully for the entire dance music industry, he didn’t give up and Amnesia soon became the best club in the world. Bringing together a diverse mix of people, never before seen under the same roof - the common denominator that bound them all together - the music provided by DJ Alfredo.

Italians, French, German, Swiss and the rest of Europe plus Americans and Canadians, all made Amnesia their place to be and before long word spread amongst the music and entertainment world and the likes of Grace Jones, George Michael and Boy George were joined by VIPs such as Prince Albert of Monaco to party to Alfredo’s Balearic beats.

Amateur DJs Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold and Nicky Holloway arrived to see what all the fuss was about and within months they’d taken the new fresh sound, pioneered by Alfredo, back to the UK. The 1988 Amnesia opening party saw Alfredo joined by one of the heroes of the UK M25 macro parties, Adamski and rapper Ricky Lyte. The party marked the start of a new era, for Alfredo, Amnesia and the Ibiza party scene in general. Things would never be the same again.

Trevor Fung

Balearic Beatmaster

Trevor began his DJ career at 18 and was quickly earning a reputation for his taste and knowledge of both UK and American Soul Funk and Jazz. In 1984, Trevor was invited to play at Amnesia to spin his now mixed style of dance music, which complimented much-respected Amnesia resident DJ ‘Alfredo’. On Trevor’s return to the UK he teamed up with Paul Oakenfold to set up ‘The Funhouse’, followed by the formation of his infamous ‘The Project’ club DJ Carl Cox.

In ‘87 Trevor took ‘The Project Club’ to Ibiza where together with Ian St Paul he opened a bar in San Antonio, playing to a mixed crowd that was attracted by the then unusual combination of Hip Hop, Indie, Acid and House music, Trevor had incorporated into his unique style. This later became known as ‘Balearic Beat’. Nicky Holloway, Paul Oakenfold, Johnny Walker and Danny Rampling were all early visitors to Trevor’s nights in Ibiza and were inspired to change the face of the London club scene by launching seminal nights such as The Future, Spectrum, Shoom and Land Of Oz.

Soon after Trevor could be seen playing at all the big one-off ‘M25 Orbital live events’ such as Sunrise, Energy, World Dance and Biology which led to residencies at Rage, Enter the Dragon, Spectrum and Love @ the Wag.

Nancy Noise

Balearic Queen

Nancy Noise is one of the originals. She first visited Ibiza in 1986 and during the summers of '86 and '87 her home was Amnesia, dancing to the sounds of Leo Mas and Alfredo.

During the summer of 1987 Nancy met Ian St.Paul and Paul Oakenfold and on arrival back to London Oakenfold asked her to DJ. The club was the Future and it is now part of London clubbing history. Within weeks Future was one of the busiest parties in London and a fundamental part of the early Acid House scene in. From here she played Spectrum, Loud Noise and Land Of Oz. and was soon playing for i-D magazine world tours. She continued to work hand in hand with Paul Oakenfold at the newly formed Perfecto Records, which led to playing at Perfecto parties in New York and Pacha in Ibiza.

Through the 90's she played at many of the now infamous ‘super-clubs’ clubs and after having a break to be a mamma, she got back behind the decks, bringing her vibe and playing sunset sets, at festivals and clubs around the world.

Nancy Noise is one of the modest ones - she loves music, playing at parties for people that care and keeping her original style of DJing alive and well - Bring the (Nancy) Noise.
